okay sinds there is a huge chance I'm moving to the us virgin islands, I was thinking to get my payments through online payment, this way I do not have to bring money to a bank, and used to be secure since with paypal you can deposit money to your bank but cannot pull it of , butthen I found this website http://www.aboutpaypal.org/.

On this website they say http://www.free-merchant.com/ is better , but I had a doubt about the individuality of the websites so I did a whois on the domains. but the only match was the DNS server. DNS.BIZSITESERVICE.COM

So is it a catch to lure people away from paypal, and is free-merchant a scam , or is free-merchant THAT GOOD, that aboutpaypal.org could only promote them??

any thoughts ? Basically I'm looking for something free to setup and can wire to an european account (if possible deposit only).

I've used paypal since they started. I had a personal account, I did the ebay thing a while, lots of buying and selling. I've used their money market and kept several thousand dollars at a time in their system to get the high interest rate. I've got several credit cards and bank accounts tied.

Now I use them for multiple businesses because there is no one else that accepts as many currencies from as many countries as they do.

I have never once had a problem--other than some headaches with integration, and that was just a learning curve.

I really look at the aboutpaypal site as a bunch of bunk. It's true that paypal sides with the buyer almost always. So does every other credit card processor I've dealt with. WorldPay for example. I'm not saying the stories there aren't true, just that paypal's behavior in those cases is really not far off from any other merchant service.

Simply put, they are the simplest and easiest way to accept money online. There are caveats. Read all their policies and understand them before committing. Check other similar services and read all their policies as well. About 6 months ago I considered switching away from paypal, went out and did some research. I found 0 people that were competitive as far as features without huge amounts of headaches. Several companies wouldn't even send me their full policies until I was in process of signing up!

I think paypal gets the most ire of any because before it the average person didn't have any avenue for this sort of service. Corporates already knew the ropes. Basically when taking money online, know your customers. In the case of ebay/small e-commerce site you're going to be dealing with the maximum number of people trying to cheat you. It's usually a case of buyer vs sellers word when there's a problem.

thanks for the quick reply alex,
Well you covered all my doubts, I feel good with paypal because it is really easy to use. I've been using it for a couple of years now, and everything is going great, just got a little worried after reading aboutpaypal.org , but yeah that whole website is kinda fishy. seems like that website is made to send people to free-merchant.com, because if it really was a stand-alone website, there should/would be a list of more billing websites with pro's and con's .

anyway thanks for the fast reply and sharing some personal experience!

The main thing is to understand what the policies are, and how they put you at risk. Merchants definitely have risk involved, but I don't think paypal puts them at greater risk than they are with other processors.

Aboutpaypal.org is hosted on Godaddy while www.free-merchant.com is hosted on www.ezot.com

I wouldn't trust any of these for nuts.

Paypal rocks. It simply works. Its intuitive, flexible and simple.

Why does their hosting effect the message? Why would they need a dedicated server or other expensive hosting?

Edit: well... free-merchant.com does look a little suspect but the fact is plenty of people do have issues with Paypal.

the hosting doesn't matter, but the server they are using, if it is a private server you can see who this website is running, and thus gain some real information about tho owners, anyway i think their dns server is fishy.. I don't know why.

but to give some final thoughts about my first post, I just stick to Paypal,I'm familiar with it, and it is working fine for me.
