I think the most important part about doing web design is not this kind of survey-type market research, but to just learn from experience. Start with one client, learn from that, and then go on to the next. Your first few years in business will be all about learning, and this is the type of industry that is perfect for bootstrapping your way along and learning as you go. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback nhgnikole! I've actually been freelancing for around 10 years so I have a pretty good grip on what clients are after (usually something for nothing :P), but I am putting together a new partnership and business plan for jellyhead.com.au. I need hard data to be able to present to banks ect to show that it's a viable business idea.
