So purplelist.com is the new big thing then?
From their site:
The Purple List: a network of trends and innovation professionals presented by PSFK. Membership to The Purple List is By Invitation Only
Thats about all it says, and that it's by PSFK.
I don't know. Hey, I'm trendy and innovative (ahem) but I'm getting tired of this. 8apps was gonna be the pro network too and it's closing this month (worth another note: why wasn't I notified?)...
Anyway, what's up here?

(Oh, look, they've got leaves for a logo.)
Hadn't heard of purplelist — why do you think it's going to be big at all? Because of Fawkes, or something more?

Looks like something I don't care about.
Plus it seems to be Ning-powered. Eh. So is the Playboy social network, and look how that's doing.

@hthth
Not sure, really. The vibe struck? I saw the name flash by a couple times? I really can't remember but it stuck.
@RightOn
It was, mainly because nothing happened there indeed. I tried setting up a screencasting group there but it sank. Pro networks seem to work differently I suppose.
@Rich
There's a playboy social network? You have invites? :)

Yeah it's just a branded college networking site... it's quite boring actually.

No porn? GTFO my internet now!
Seriously, what the hell.
Also, why purple? purple isnt a web 2.0 color. These guys are gonna fail so bad...

Doesn't interest me much. I'm not sure how many "networks for professionals" we need...
As an aside, anyone know why 8apps is closing down? Did they not get Google or Yahoo! after them as planned? ("Hey, forget making an app that's really great; let's just make it good enough to get it bought!")

@Vidar:
Maybe it's a semantic web colour?
@Josh:
I have absolutely no idea. Blog hasn't been updated since spring 07 or something. Guy running it was weird too.

Not semantic either. Come to think of it, purple is so 1996. Remember when you clicked a link back then? It turned purple.

What about www.spire.com? I've just had an invitation to join this and it's invitation only. Not sure what that's all about either.
