I am trying to create a new theme for my site since the old one is boring.
I am going for a totally new look with more of an'illustrated' look. In fact, this is my first stab at using illustrator. I am undecided on the look, but I wanted to ask your opinion before I continue.
Do you like what it is turning into or should I ditch it now? (The layout/Theme - not the content)

Thanks!

I think it looks pretty cool! I love the little ladybugs. Not sure how I feel about the brown, though. Either the brown needs to be muddier (more of a nature feel) or try something maybe dark grey (to make the colors stand out more).

Good idea leliathomas! And thanks! I will experiment some more with the background colour when I get back.. unfortunately I had to come into work to do ot this morning :(
I was trying to go a dark grey in the first place because I like the look of it as a background, but I was not sure if it would go with that or not. Hopefully it will look alright though when I try it.
Im all about ladybugs <grin>. My Mom started collecting them for me when I was first born.. and now... 30+ years later I still collect them!
I also have a couple of butterflies and bee's I want to add to - just did not have time to add them before I left.

Well, I have made the background darker and added my fav bumblebee :) I do think I like it darker, thanks for the suggestion leliathomas. I could not get the 'right' shade of grey, so I did go with the brown.
Now to add a few more things and then get down to the actual inside of it

Well, I think I have it as I am going to use it now...
Opinions are welcome :)

The background doesnt "seem" to take too long to load.. but it is hard for me to tell on cable. Plus, I figure the target audience for this site will also have a higher speed connection..

Looks nice Erica! I would style the footer more though as it looks a little lonely down there. Great illustration work! :-)

Johnny -
Excellent suggestion. I think I will do just that. The footer does seem quite plain and lonely on the bottom.
That will be my next project before I start duplicating the pages.
Thank you much for your kind words!

Erica, great design. I wouldn't worry too much about download time on a site like yours. You're obviously showing off your talent as an illustrator so it's appropriate that you sacrifice a little speed.

bitsonewmedia you are making me blush :). This is really like the second thing I have ever done on illustrator - the first was some little character I created back in high school that I tried to replicate on a wacom. The waycom and Illustrator are both new to me.. maybe 3 weeks old lol. So... I am actually glad it has turned out as well as it has so far! I guess the target audience I am going for is one that most liekly would have broadband as opposed to dial up.. so that should all be good. Just different for me is all.(and Thanks for the kind words as well )

Hey nice work, I think it's got a lot of potential! I wanted to say that that the bumble bee doesn't look the same as the rest of the illustration. While everything else has a sort of flat look the bee is very rounded and gradient looking. I think I'd love it if you took off those gradients! Maybe a little more transparency in the wings.
I dig the colors too.
