Here is an article on how web 3.0 will look like. 3D web, automatic tagging, smarter mobile phones are only some of the features. The greatest is that we will be able to search using files and not only by typing keywords!
Look at the features and I would like to hear your opinions on that and how personal data could be protected with such web features...

Oh please.
The web will always look like the bloody web.
And I didn't read the article you pasted (and wrote, I assume) because there's no padding between paragraphs and no pictures.

What does "web 3.0" have to do with the technology in mobile phones?

Web is not only for pcs for years now :) Users are able to interact with applications like msn and sending emails with mobile phones even today. Twitter supports also posting via cell phone...

What's the difference between web 1.0 and web 2.0? Nothing. Some guy came along, told everyone this is how it's gonna be, and we were too dumbfucked to think otherwise. New technology? Hardly. It's just being used in a different manner. The only thing even remotely new about web 2.0 is how many people wet their pants over it.
3D Web? It already exists

Thank you Dook. And Psy2k, I am quite aware that the web is available on other devices outside of desktop computers, but I highly doubt that mobile device developers are worried about "web 3.0" when building these devices, its' the web developers that have to worry about having them work on those devices.

Why do we feel the need to tag version numbers onto something that isn't SUPPOSED to be a "product".
I expect 1.0 2.0 3.0 from Apple/Microsoft etc. on products but the web is an ever changing beast... it's not something that we can measure as "Landmark 3 is here".

Version numbers are only for showing evolution steps. Nothing more.
@JPhill, for mobile devices: It is both mobile pgone developers and web designers that should care about internet on mobile devices. Here though is another point, as users on ther road look for different type of info than desktop users.

I think it's kind of lame that you come in here boasting about the new features that web 3.0 will have and that you found an interesting article on the topic when you are the author of said article and it doesn't look like you did much research into the topic. You speak of this new version not being far off, but you talk about features that already exist.
I'm sorry, but it really seems like you're just trying to grab traffic by using some buzzwords about a title (web 3.0) that doesn't exist that's based on a concept (web version numbers) that is not readily or concretely defined.
No thanks.

Version numbers are only for showing evolution steps. Nothing more.
Landmark steps, you can't have something that is ALWAYS evolving defined by a concept that relates to stepped releases.
The internet isn't made by a company that releases landmark releases of its product. The internet changes DAILY. If we're to point release date it then I guess we should be calling today's version Web 2,4 billion point oh.

Unicorn's again and blog post fodder.. that's web 3.0. I think the conversation here has proved the notion it's what some people would call fairy tales. Evolution doesn't need a number - what are we human 5.5?

I'm pretty sure Web 3.0 is going to feature lots of
<marquee>tags (Technorati is ahead of the game) and tons of animated gifs and sparkles.Oh, and FrontPage frames will be totally in. Everyone's page will be set at 100% width and all CSS will be inline.
Want to see Web 3.0 in action? Browse around MySpace profiles, they are the real trend setters.
Edit: And tables are BACK!

If you're going to attempt to define a new trend, you should provide plenty of examples of its emergence. I mean you're a nobody blogger, why should we listen to you? The broader the topic, the more evidence required to make a convincing argument.

@JeffJ: I am not the author as this blog is a team blog from a store that I work for. You are a student as I see, so reading more carefully is good point to start.
Canada should be really far away from the other world in technology issues...Oli

In terms of useless predictions, I've already covered web 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 in my post Web 5.0 - A glimpse of the future
It gets a bit silly in the middle but that kind of makes the point the post is making: stop worrying about silly buzzwords. We won't know what Web 3.0 means until we're already "in it", as per Web 2.0. You can't go around making up silly names and hoping everybody's just going to do what you say...
The technology world has a feisty habit for bucking trends and making new things available that really weren't a decade earlier

Okay, so I can understand you may not be happy with my response, but what the hell does this mean?
I debated the relevance of your post and you personally attack me because of age and education? That's a little low. Also, if you're going to ask me to start reading more carefully you should probably do so with proper grammar.
Also, if you're going to attack my country:
I recommend doing a little more research as to where Canada is on the world stage of technology. We're not exactly behind the curve if that's what you're implying by saying we "should be really far away from the other world", whatever that means.

I know what it will look like:
One big super-shiny and glossy button on the page that says "submit". Where it will go from there, I have no idea, but you can bet it will be freaking amazing.

Some great comments here. I agree with Oli. Lets keep thinking outside the box and although 'tags' like 3.0 and 2.0 are really useful lets keep striving for more exciting designs and interactivity.
I do wonder what i might be like though.. :) Shiny is good. An online 'feeling' experience. ( I have no idea how that would translate ). What does everyone else think? Networking will continue to be a huge development in 3.0 or later.. into 2010.. ;)

I'm not going to get sucked into the debate web versioning, but the Web 2.0 Summit is coming up in October, which many here might want to keep an eye on as there are bound to be some interesting and innovative new web apps debuting — or at least some news on what's on the horizon.
