communities are hot on the net these days, but it seems that Myspace is being abandoned for FaceBook,
What is your favorite social community? or you think they are all crappy?

I like Facebook; but my favourite community would probably be Virb.

I dig 9rules.com - you should check them out. ;)
But I think Facebook has succeeded where MySpace failed: having a consitent user interface that can't be "configured" to look like a 3rd grader with Dreamweaver somehow made it.

Bingo nathan, Facebook has the best interface. MySpace is just an eye sore.
Virb is very nice, but in my opinon is not perceived as a solution for general public, but for designers and such.. maybe time will help them..

I like both, for various reasons. When Facebook hit my campus and before it was open to anyone, most of my long-time friends weren't in college and had a MySpace page. So I liked MySpace better because I kinda had to. Here is another take on the Facebook vs. MySpace topic.

I used to favor MySpace over Facebook because of the broad community. But now that Facebook has gotten to be more than just a College userbase, it's a lot more interactive, especially now with the ability to develop and release applications (which is also a pain in the ass since I am constantly getting invites for applications I don't want).
MySpace has become more of a spam portal in the recent days. I've had to add the requirement for a last name or email to add me because I would get 10-20 adds a day from porn bots. No one really uses it that much anymore. Mainly because the main-stream media got to them and scared them to death, but also because they lack the actual ability to deploy methods to keep porn bots and spam out. Rupert Murdoch got a hold of it and now nothings being done. And just in general, they've grown in the habit of not listening to other users, only the ones who have money (aka Movies, main-stream bands/groups, etc.). I could go on and on about this, but I won't.
To sum it all up, have a corporation buy you and and you should basically kiss your popularity and ideas good bye.

9Rules is the greatest community. :D
Facebook is my clear choice over Myspace as I enjoy my vision.

FaceBook easily. Myspace is full of dross.
The News feed feature is a great addition, but mostly I like how private the community is, MySpace is too open.

I've an account on both, but I do prefer ning.com at this moment to all other type of profile/community/group/network sites.
I'm still making an exception for 9rules.com ofcourse...

I haven't been able to 'get hooked' by either of them. I am trying Facebook again, and in my limited experience I find it a better layout etc.

I'd have to say Facebook. Although, I do like the music communities on Myspace and it does have less restrictions.

Meh. Vision and good-looking things with which to use vision are so overrated. :D
I prefer Facebook. After holding out for awhile I finally gave in (just a month ago), but it wasn't as nearly painful as it was giving in to MySpace. The aforementioned events are separated by about year.

Facebook!
You can remove what you don't want to see on other people's profiles, there aren't bad designs, and it's a lot easier to add the content that you do want.

I'm thinking facebook as well.
This is a question I'm trying to answer as my partner and I develop our own social network... Whether or not to let the users customize their look to the extent that myspace has or keep the sleek look and stay consistent like facebook.

Facebook is much better, but its going downhill into MySpace territory with how much Applications are spreading (Facebook profiles are no longer simple, but there's crap like Zombies and Graffiti all over the place instead). Suppose its better than sparkle graphics...

To everyone whining about applications: You can fucking hide them you know?
This spate of people complaining about Facebook applications and saying they're going the same way as MySpace recently is ridiculous.

Myspace. I surf it using Lynx, though, so no eye sore here. Just lots of glorious, glorious text.

I agree. I just can't stand to look at Myspace. I have it only because I have found a lot of people I had lost contact with over the years on there, but other than than I use facebook.

I don't use either, due to reasons which I explained in a (fairly) popular post that I made.
Basically, I don't think that social networking - at least through MySpace-like sites - is very productive!

Oh, there are some of the "general public" there; and with a few of them, eyesores of profiles (mainly garish colour combinations). Thankfully, I can't remember the URLs. ;)
Yep. Show the ones you want to see; hide the others you don't.

As much as i'm a web-junkie & follower of web 2.0, i did not have a myspace OR facebook account until recently. But about 2 months ago i finally gave in.
I was traveling in Southeast Asia for a couple of months, and met tons of people who asked me if i had facebook so we could stay in touch. Regretfully, i didn't sign up until after getting back and so lost touch with all those people i met while traveling. I will say that it's been great to get in touch with all those people from high school, etc, that i've lost touch with over the years

Ok, jleekun, that's the third comment I've happened upon in the last two minutes where you've promoted what I assume to be your own site. If you have something to actually contribute to the conversation, please do, but if you're here to simply pimp a site, you'll find that the majority of us are not interested. I, for one, have not and will not visit your site simply because I don't like this marketing technique. And a tip: you may want to learn how to imbed links.
To answer the question originally posed: I like Facebook. It's more private, much easier to find old friends, and not as horrifically ugly. Additionally, I feel that it is actually a network, where people are truly connected, instead of just randomly adding friends in order to be the most "popular."

Ok, I do realize that my response is strong, but I have a known track record for low tolerance regarding notes written only to waste our time.
I guess I'm a purist (God help me), but notes that are designed purely to promote your own site aren't notes, they're spam. And they belong in the garbage.
Done now, and walking away for awhile. If I'm off-base on the motive behind the note, my apologies in advance. Unfortunately, though, I don't think any apologies are due in this case.

I read that Tom (from MySpace) wanted to show how people's networking relationships were [sorry link goes to Tom's blog @ MS]. They abandoned that because it caused a huge server load. That's definitely one thing I like about FB. I mean, who the heck actually has a gazillion real friends?
I like Facebook because you can see who your mutual friends are with someone else, notifications on when a friend has changed something in his or her profile, no spam messages, and the Facebook applications. So what if the pages aren't customizable from a layout standpoint? Most MS pages are fugly and illegible. I'm there for the functionality. The interface is clean and usable.

I like simply being able to make my Myspace page look better than everyone else's because I have half a brain, and and don't use facebook much. I guess I haven't really spent the time to get to know the UI. But I haven't been on myspace much lately, either. It seems all my online time these days is spent on 9rules...

Facebook has a way better interface and it feels more robust than Myspace. The latter, however, has many more users, which is want I like about it.

Myspace, because the percentage of people grow faster and larger. Which I find is interesting.
