Reading Jason's blog microscopiq, I came across his entry Karma 2.0:

One answer may be Web 2.0. After all, Web 2.0 has an allure that rivals the iPod these days. What would it mean to make Product Red Web 2.0 compliant? How do we encourage the development of super cool gotta-play-with-it web properties that just happen to be aiding the underprivileged?

What would it mean to make Product Red Web (or anything) Web 2.0 compliant? Web 2.0 is one of those terms where people want to jump on the bandwagon but don't really understand what it is. Looking at the Web 2.0 directories I always question why some sites are included.

So is there a list of criteria required to be Web 2.0 compliant?

Web 2.0 is merely a buzz-word to encompass every direction that the web is spreading to: social sites, extreme usability, ajax/javascript effects, design style...

I'm afraid that the term is thrown around too much without a clear understanding of the fact that there is no Web 2.0, just a direction of the web.

So to answer your last question, there really isn't any specific criteria for Web 2.0. It is generally just something new that hasn't quite been done before... though it seems that most "Web 2.0" things are just copies of others.

Web 2.0 is so last week. It's all about web 2.1 beta :)

Like paularms mentions, there really isn't a set criteria to be "web 2.0" but from what I can tell, making sites with smooth edges, kind of bubbly looking with a little shine or plastic wrap sort of look and mirror reflections on logos and some graphics seem to be what people are calling web 2.0.

I'm wondering when drop shadows and outer glow is going to come back into style ;)

If there isn't a set criteria then how can a site we considered Web 2.0? Really, why isn't 9rules 3.5? :)

The next big thing will be the World Wide Awesome. Everyone will use wwa.theirsite.com instead of www...

Tyme, 9rules falls into web 2.2-alpha I think but when Scrivs finally gets done with his coding work... hehe, then it might be considered 3.5...

"get on that sh*t paul" ;)

Despite all the definitions, for me a Web 2.0 site visiting a nice pub. Instead of going straight for the balcony, you stop for a moment, breathe it in and wonder about how nice it feels.

There are many Web 2.0 tips and how-tos on the Web, but unless you pour your heart into it, and really feel comfortable with the result, I don't think you can call it Web 2.0, it's a Zen thing I guess.

Web 2.0 sites don't bombarding with information, they want you to enjoy browsing the site as much as you enjoy reading it's content.

(I'm feeling inspired today, I should write a poem or something)

I think I'm starting to become a worthy competitor for a certain 9rules member for my inability to proof read my posts/comments. Here's the proof read version of the previous comment (sorry folks):
