I thought they were against this whole VC funding, but apparently they are doing it just for the knowledge that Bezos is giving them. Now I have no problem with VC funding, I just have a problem with how people use it and I always thought 37s was against it, but maybe I missed the boat somewhere.
1. Less Money Times have changed. All other people’s money gets you these days is into debt. And that’s not a great place to start anything from. You don’t need money for hardware — hardware is cheap. You don’t need money for software — software is free. You don’t need money for marketing — there are a variety of ways get your message out online to a huge audience for next to free. Money doesn’t buy you time and money doesn’t buy you passion (and passion is something you need a boatload of). All money buys you are salaries. And salaries buy you people.
Interesting to see what directions they plan on going in because I thought they were making generous bank as it was. I wouldn't mind having lunch with Bezos to hear what he has to say.

They've gotta be expanding into new markets. Bezos has knowledge with supply chain management, warehouses, manufacturing, and that kinda stuff — basically everything that 37s currently can't do. They must be adding new products/services to their repertoir and I'm not so sure they're web-based.

Say... wha?!
I guess between the Hummers and mansions they've been gobbling up, they forgot that their business involved costs too.

I'm not too sure that they are making boatloads of money. Sure they're successful, but I think a vast majority of their users use the free options for their products. I know they're working on a CRM tool. Perhaps they felt a little in over their heads and needed some cash and advice on how to roll that out in a way that they want to. I agree that it should be interesting to see where this takes them.

ktg: David Hanasson moved from Copenhagen to America, bought a new house in Chicago, bought a new Hummer & more computers than the eye can see. Not to mention at least a dozen trips around the world for various conferences.
... so far this year.
They're making boatloads of money :) I don't really know what the motivation was for this, other than trying to skyrocket 37signals into the Fortune 500 for some reason. Seems to me they're taking their whole small-teams thoughts and throwing them to the wind in favor of a large conglomerate. That's my take on the subject, at least.

A Hummer proves that Less Is More.......... or the complete opposite.

I wonder what 37s and the crew think about the investment now that Amazon is bullying a Web 2.0 company out of existence.

It's been about a year since this was first announced and so far we haven't seen anything different from 37s, especially this year as they've been pretty quiet and only giving their applications some minor updates.

Thank you, joenewbreed! Baby Boomer that I am, I also thought "VC" could only mean Viet Cong. This provided quite a laugh to my son's friends who grew up at a different time :)
